How can you not love this toy??Apr 01, 2008 Honestly. Are people ignorant and just negative at every given opportunity? What's with such horrid reviews of this product? One, Melissa & Doug has the BEST customer service. If your sound blocks don't give the desired noise, call M&D. They'll send you new ones free of charge. Seriously. (They very happily replaced my train puzzle bc it didn't make the requisite "whoo whoo" noise.) Two, I love a puzzle that has only two pieces. What parent wouldn't?? And, finally, this toy really does challenge younger children. We had it forever, and my son always loved to help me put the pieces together. At 20 months, he assembled his first match on his own - much to his and my surprise and delight. He now loves to make all the matches, many times over. This puzzle is definitely more of a challenge than the ones w/the corresponding picture or shape under each piece (a lot of M&D puzzles).
Wonderful conceptJan 02, 2008 I love this toy no little pieces too lose - fun for infant to toddler. Makes great sounds. My youngest has enjoyed it at 1 month (the sounds) and my oldest now 3.5 still loves it. An great easy introduction to puzzles for toddlers and a great introduction to animals for infants. Win win! Not to mention its cute - I can display it instead of hide in with our plethora of plastic toys.
a quality productDec 30, 2007 my grandaughter is 20 months old and I wanted to give her something for Christmas that wasn't made in China so I went with the local-made-in-the-usa toy. To my surprise, she loved the colors and sounds but was a bit to young to fingure out how the blocks put together made the animal sounds. She keeps at it tho and brings it to "mimi" to play with her. I'm glad I purchased this quality product
Poor audio quality ruins great conceptDec 11, 2007 What a great concept ole "melissa" and "doug" came up with. Blocks with different farm animals that only make the sound of the animal when matched up correctly. Unfortunately, they should have spent a little more in the audio department. All the sound is garbly and distorted. Even better, the rooster sounds like he's being butchered, the horse sounds distressed, as if being chased by a pack of wild hounds.
I would have been willing to pay a couple of bucks more for a better product.
Definitely for 2+years.Nov 26, 2007 I purchased this when my son was 14-months-old and starting to say animal noises. He does not like this toy because he gets frustrated trying to put the animals together in a small rectangular base. The 2.5-year-old I watch during the week loves this toy! He always pulls it out and laughs hysterically when he makes the animals make noise. Definitely wait for your child to reach 2-years-old before s/he'll be able to understand and make it work.
